Cora Keeton raising four of her own
grandchildren (5 month old twins, a
2 yr. old and a 4 yr. old) finding resources and assistance difficult to access. She founded the North Sacramento Grandparents Support Group, February14, 1994. Today the hope and support to grandparents struggling to raise grandchildren whose parent are unable
to take care of them because of drug addiction, mental illness, or incarceration. Cora’s desire to help these grandparents was a result of her experiences. Or perhaps this fact coupled with an enormous heart influenced her decision to begin the NSGSG. The support group continues
to offer resources and matters of concern to grandparents raising grandchildren. In addition to facilitating meetings, Cora responds to over a 2,000 calls a year from grandparents needing resources. Without this support group, many grandparents would be lost in today’s ever-changing world of technology, finding the choice of raising grandchildren more overwhelming.
